Topiary Garden

The Topiary Garden is very unique and it is a part of the Old Deaf School Park in downtown Columbus, Ohio. The famous painting by George Seurat, A Sunday On The Island Of La Grande Jatte, was the focus of this extraordiary work and this is the only work of its kind based on that famous painting.

You'll find several unique designs which consists of eight boats, three dogs, a cat, a monkey, and fifty-four people. The tallest figure is 12 foot tall.

It also features a real pond that was installed in 1989 representing the River Seine. This work was completed by a local artist, James T. Mason, in 1989 and sponsored by the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department.

As you stroll through the park you'll find topiary couples, boats on the pond with rowers, and so much more.

The first deaf school was built in 1834. A second school was built in 1869, but it burnt down in 1981. A third school build in 1899 is now used as offices.

Located at the corners of Washington Avenue and East Town Street, the park is open daily from sunrise to sundown.

The Visitor's Center is open Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11AM to 3PM. The museum is open April through December. For scheduled hours and more information, contact them at 614-645-0197.
