I always enjoy seeing new places, but I really enjoy going places where I can "do hands-on things." Here you'll find those kinds of "fun to do" places like hands-on museums, sports, the zoo with enrichment days, and much more. There are also so many great places to see in Columbus, Ohio such as communities, historical places, landmarks, and much more. With so many things to do and places to see, I'll be taking you exploring to some of my favorite Columbus, Ohio attractions. Fun Things to do in Columbus, OhioAmerican Whistle CorporationThe American Whistle Corporation offers tours (by appointment) Monday through Friday at their facility located at 6540 Huntley Road, Columbus. They are the only manufacturer in the USA of metal whistles. The tours last about 45 minutes. You'll see the beginning to end of the manufacturing including some state-of-the-art equipment as well as some of the original equipment used at the beginning of manufacturing.
The tour hours are 9AM to 5PM and you may also browse the gift shop which has some unique items. To schedule a tour you may call 800-876-2918 or 614-846-2918, Extension 4. If you ever wondered how that little ball gets inside of a whistle, take the tour! Anthony Thomas FactoryThe Anthony Thomas Factory offers free open hours factory tours every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30AM to 2:30PM. It's also open to free Motor Coach and Group tours of 10 or more Monday through Friday from 9:30AM to 2:30PM by appointment. The toll free number to schedule a tour is 877-226-3921. The tour takes about an hour in this 152,000 square foot factory. You'll walk through the suspended cat-walk and watch eight lines producing 25,000 pounds of candy per shift. The tour guide will explain the process as you tour. You'll see huge copper kettles and silver wrapped pipes that carry the chocolate and much more. Book Loft of German VillageThe Book Loft of German Village is unique and quaint, and it encompasses one whole city block. Previously in the Civil War era, this building housed general stores, a nickelodeon cinema, and a saloon. The brick walk-ways are beautiful with flower gardens and benches to sit and rest on. The store itself is beautiful and packed with special treasures. Being one of the nation's largest indpendent book stores, you'll find 32 rooms of bargain books, cards, and posters. You can browse as you listen to music they feature on 19 different sound systems. And if you're shopping for music, the music department has been expanded and includes blues, swing jazz, and big bands. Located at 631 South Third Street, Columbus. COSI (Center Of Science and Industry) ColumbusCOSI Columbus is a fantastic science museum. It offers so many programs and packages, and it's educational as well as fun. The new building is much larger and easy to get around in, and allows for more exhibits as well. Columbus ZooThe Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is one of the finest zoos around. The zoo continuously adds improvements and areas of interest for all ages. Dublin ArtDublin Art in public places is the result of The Dublin Arts Council and City of Dublin efforts and commitment to art. They have commissioned various artists to build these works of arts. From a concrete Field of Corn to a soccer ball that stands ten feet high, these are definitely some interesting pieces of work. Franklin Park ConservatoryFranklin Park Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio was built in 1895 and is a leader in the education of ecological awareness and horticulture. Nestled in a 90-plus acre park 2 miles east of downtown Columbus, you'll find cascading waterfalls, beautiful flower gardens, and paths that wind throughout the park which is free to visitors all year. Magic MountainMagic Mountain has numerous outdoor and indoor attractions and two locations! Fun for all ages you'll find mini golf, go karts, rookie karts, sprint karts, batting cages, bumper boats, bumper cars, and more. Olentangy Indian CavernsExlore the Olentangy Indian Caverns 105 feet under the earth's surface. You'll not only have fun exploring the caverns, but they feature Frontier Land, Gem Mining, Miniature Golf and much more. Santa MariaColumbus Santa Maria really takes you back in time. Operating as it would have over 500 years ago, you get to experience some of what the explorer's did. Slate Run Living Historical FarmSlate Run Living Historical Farm is the era of the 1800s. You will know you have stepped back in time as you learn how to operate a farm without the use of electricity or gas-powered equipment. Sports OhioSports Ohio has it all. This 110 acre park is home to Field Sports, Soccer First, PowerPlay, The Golf Center, Dublin Chiller, and Midwest Gymnastics and Cheer. Topiary GardenThe Topiary Garden is very unique and it is a part of the Old Deaf School Park in downtown Columbus, Ohio. The famous painting by George Seurat, A Sunday On The Island Of La Grande Jatte, was the focus of this extraordiary work and this is the only work of its kind based on that famous painting. |
