Columbus Ohio Events for January, 2011

Holidays at the Conservatory
An annual Central Ohio tradition, Holidays at the Conservatory features lavish poinsettia displays including the 15-ft poinsettia tree, lighted holiday trees both indoor and out, special programs, Candlelight Nights, and, to the delight of train lovers of all ages, a new music box model train by garden railway designer Paul Busse.
Candlelight Nights
A mid-week treat, Candlelight Nights, will take place on Wednesdays November 24, December 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. Each evening features musical entertainment, children's activities, and the Conservatory lit by hundreds of votives. The Conservatory's Garden Cafe will offer an evening menu and snacks. For those who want a more formal and unique holiday dining experience, Candlelight Palm House Dinners are available by reservation on the evenings of December 1, 8 , 15, and 22.

Ohio Boat & RV Show

Orchid Forest
Orchids will transform the Conservatory's Pacific Island Water Garden with thousands of bright pink, yellow, orange, lime green, and purple blooms. The exhibition will include several species including vanda, masdevallias, oncidium, dendrobium, cymbidium, and phalaenopsis.

Columbus Horse Expo - The Equine Affaire
Join us for Equine Affaire in Ohio! Experience the nation's premiere equine exposition, featuring more than 250 unique clinics, seminars, and demonstrations by top professionals in the horse industry. Equine Affaire also hosts the largest equine-related trade show in North America, showcasing hundreds of commercial exhibits, an extensive Breed Pavilion, a fun-filled Youth Pavilion, and a special evening show - the Pfizer Fantasia, a musical celebration of the horse.
Admission: Adult admission is $14/day or $48/four-day pass and includes admission to all presentations. The Pfizer Fantasia (Friday & Saturday evenings) requires a separate ticket and usually sells out before the event.

17th Annual Komen Columbus Race for the Cure
The Komen Race for the Cure® is a unique event, designed and implemented to promote positive awareness, education and early detection of breast cancer. It has proved to be an enormously effective way to reach many women and men with the message that breast cancer is not necessarily fatal if mammography and breast self-exam become routine. As well as being a road race for runners, the Komen Race for the Cure® is an emotionally charged event that attracts many first timers and recreational runners. It is an opportunity for thousands of women, men and their families, running or walking, to spread the breast cancer message within their communities. Up to 75 percent of the funds raised at the Komen Columbus Race for the Cure® remain here in our 30-county service area to provide breast health research, diagnostics, screening, treatment, services and education for uninsured or underinsured women. The remaining 25 percent goes to fund national research to discover the causes of breast cancer and, ultimately, its cures.

4th of July Celebration in Columbus, Ohio

All Ohio Bike Fest 2010
Welcome to Ohio's renowned motorcycle event, All Ohio Bike Fest (AOBF), in beautiful Union County, Ohio! Formerly known as Honda HomeComing, the AOBF is back for another exciting year! ABOF is held annually in Union County, Ohio, just minutes northwest of Columbus. Bikers, vendors and exhibitors from around the nation gather in Union County the last weekend in July to visit old friends, enjoy live entertainment, delicious food, and the sickest custom motorcycles and motorcycle accessories in the midwest. The AOBF is now open to all riders and all makes and models of motorcycles. With a history steeped in motorcycle tradition, Marysville and Union County celebrates life on the open road during this three-day, "ATM" event. So from July 23 to 25, grab your Skid Lid and throttle on up to Union County and enjoy good fun, good bikes, and good times.

Columbus Wine Festival
The second annual Columbus Wine Festival is presented by Giant Eagle. Set within the 88 acres of Franklin Park, the event offers a variety of tastings, food & wine education, cooking demonstrations by local chefs and live musical entertainment in a fabulous outdoor setting. Festival guests can taste from a selection of more than 200 domestic and international wines and enjoy food from some of the finest Columbus area restaurants. A festival highlight is the Belgian Beer Café presented by Stella Artois. Beer experts will showcase the natural affinity between Belgian beer and fine food, educating adult festival attendees about proper beer pouring techniques, the importance of using the right glassware and food pairing ideas for Belgian beers Stella Artois, Hoegaarden and Leffe. Adult Wine Tasting Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the gate. This ticket price includes a souvenir wine glass, 10 tastings, a Festival Program, food and wine demonstrations and musical entertainment. Additional tasting coupons may be purchased at the festival. Designated Driver Tickets are $10 in advance or at the gate. This ticket includes two non-alcoholic drinks, a Festival Program, food and wine seminars, access to cooking demonstrations, musical entertainment and a souvenir wine glass upon departure. Attendees under 21 are admitted for free when accompanied by a paid adult. For groups of 15 or more, tasting tickets are discounted to $22.50. The festival’s proceeds will benefit the Franklin Park Conservatory, a premier horticultural and educational institution showcasing exotic plant collections, special exhibitions and signature collections.

Cornerstone to Cupola Tour
The Cornerstone to Cupola Tour of the Ohio Statehouse will highlight parts of the Capitol Building which are rarely seen. See the "lost" cornerstone and prisoner graffiti in the Crypt. Climb the narrow spiral staircase to the top of the Cupola. Ordinarily off-limits to the public, these hidden locations will be featured in a unique, special and rarely available tour. Warning! Some locations are not entirely handicapped accessible and involve stair climbing. Dress for attic and basement exploration.

Columbus Ohio Events for August, 2011

Grove City's Balloons and Tunes
Balloons and Tunes (formerly Balloons off Broadway) is Grove City's annual hot air balloon festival. This year, the event has been expanded to three days, with over 30 balloons. There will be entertainment throughout the weekend for the whole family including live music, inflatables, a climbing wall, children's activities, shows, craft vendors, a beer tent, food, beverages and more. Members of the Central Ohio Balloon Club will provide the opportunity to learn about hot air ballooning. Tethered balloon rides will be available, weather permitting and balloon glows will light up the evening sky on Friday and Saturday evenings. Balloon ascensions are scheduled as weather permits.

JUMP is a nonprofit organization created in memory of Joe Upshaw, who died from an accidental drug and alcohol overdose at his Ohio State fraternity party in 2000. JUMP holds a golf tournament each year in Columbus, OH to raise money for drug and alcohol awareness. This year is the 10th anniversary and our biggest year yet! We are raising money for a national viral marketing campaign. NHRA Unleashed
NHRA Unleashed is a high-octane, fully interactive experience for spectators and participants, embracing a new breed of drag racing enthusiast looking for pure, doorslammer heads-up competition on the track, ranging from the 200-mph Outlaw 10.5 racer to the 13-second weekend warrior, and a festival environment off the track. Everyone and everything is part of the show, which will feature entertaining doorslammer drag racing action including Pro Mods, Outlaw street cars, heads-up class racing, true street cars, and special exhibition runs; interactive events, including dyno and autocross activities; and the traditional car show, car/parts swap meet, and car corrals. These family-friendly events will also have a Kids Zone with inflatables and other children’s activities to entertain future NHRA drag racers. While you'’re here, come audition for the chance to be on our upcoming reality show, "Who Wants To Be A Race Car Driver?", which challenges sixteen contestants to fulfill their destiny of becoming the fastest, most talented human being behind the wheel. Competitors will fight achieve the chance to race with some of the best drivers of all-time in an elimination-based competition. The Pointless Pursuit
The Pointless Pursuit is a quirky, action packed urban adventure with cash prizes. Imagine a scavenger hunt, adventure race and problem solving experience all rolled into one race where two person teams run, walk or take public transit in search of challenges scattered throughout the city. The challenges are engaging and lighthearted and are designed to be completed by competitors of all ages. You may have to find something, eat something (nothing gross) or do something. The challenges may be mental or physical but all of them are fun. Our exciting, high energy event offers participants the opportunity to utilize teamwork, resourcefulness, creativity and sense of humor to reach the finish line. Registration is limited. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition at COSI
The wildly popular Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition will make a second appearance at COSI, returning to the science museum on March 27, 2010. The exhibit will stay docked in Ohio's capital city until September 6, 2010. Featuring nearly two dozen never-been-seen elements, the expanded Titanic exhibit will also include a gallery devoted to Ohio's connections to the historic voyage.

Columbus Black Doll and Gift Show
The Columbus Black Doll and Gift Show will premier showcasing a variety of handcrafted, collectible, modern and artists sculptured dolls, as well as unique gift items. Fantastic marketplace for doll enthusiasts, avid doll collectors, first-time collectors and holiday shoppers.
Date: Saturday, November 27, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Location: Aladdin Shrine Center, 3850 Stelzer Rd., Columbus, Ohio
Tickets: Ticket costs at the door is $4.00 for adults, $2.00 for children 12 and under, and children 5 and under Free.

Holiday Lights Parade & Festival
Gahana's Holiday Lights Parade and festival is one of the most unique anywhere. You'll find family oriented activities for all ages in the quaint and historic "Olde Gahanna". Go early and shop and dine, then watch the 12th annual evening parade with 100 plus lighted floats, horse drawn carriages, marching bands, and more!

Holidays at the Conservatory
An annual Central Ohio tradition, Holidays at the Conservatory features lavish poinsettia displays including the 15-ft poinsettia tree, lighted holiday trees both indoor and out, special programs, Candlelight Nights, and, to the delight of train lovers of all ages, a new music box model train by garden railway designer Paul Busse.
Candlelight Nights
A mid-week treat, Candlelight Nights, will take place on Wednesdays November 24, December 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. Each evening features musical entertainment, children's activities, and the Conservatory lit by hundreds of votives. The Conservatory's Garden Cafe will offer an evening menu and snacks. For those who want a more formal and unique holiday dining experience, Candlelight Palm House Dinners are available by reservation on the evenings of December 1, 8 , 15, and 22.

2010 Jingle Bell Run/Walk
Get ready Columbus because it’s that time of year again! Get ready to tie bells to your shoes, wear festive holiday attire and jingle through the streets at the 24th Annual 5K Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis. This event will help us help some of the 486,000 people in Central Ohio affected by arthritis. You can do your part and register at www.jinglebellruncolumbus.kintera.org or by calling 614-876-8200.

Holiday Food & Wine Showcase
Celebrate and Give Back! Wine expert, Leslie Peters, will present the perfect wines for the holiday season. Enjoy a guided wine tasting along with an array of delicious appetizers fresh from local providers and the Black Creek Farm. View a new art collection by Isis Art and listen to live music in the bistro all while supporting Central Community House. Groups are welcome - bring your staff party or a gathering of friends and family. Let us provide the atmosphere, food and drinks. Your get together will be all the more meaningful as it supports our local community center serving the near east side. All proceeds will benefit Central Community House for use in providing basic and emergency needs for families this winter. Your contribution will help provide emergency aid, food programs,utility assistance, holiday help, and other intake and referral services for those in need.

Mannheim Steamroller
Mannheim Steamroller brings a family tradition to the Palace Theatre in Columbus, Ohio. This holiday season, Mannheim Steamroller will celebrate a quarter-century of being America’s favorite Christmas music artist with a 25th Christmas Anniversary Tour of their spectacular and beloved holiday show. The group will perform live for one performance only in Columbus, Ohio at the Palace Theatre. Grammy Award® winner and mastermind behind the group, Chip Davis will direct and co-produce both the East Coast and West Coast tour ensembles of Mannheim Steamroller. The shows will feature the favorite Christmas music of Mannheim Steamroller along with state of the art multimedia effects in an intimate setting.
