Dates: Beginning December 2, 2009 through the month of December at 6PM daily A Season of Giving - City Hall Tree Lighting CeremonyThe City of Columbus is proud of the kindness and generosity of the people who make up this great community. Each year, a reminder of that generosity comes not only in kind words and good deeds, but also in the form of a unique gift - a 40-foot tall gift, to be exact. Monday, November 16, city crews will harvest a 40' Norway Spruce tree that will become the centerpiece of the downtown holiday scene. The 2009 holiday tree is a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Ernest & Barbara Burleson, residents of the Rocky Rill Road neighborhood in Northern Columbus. With the help of a 100' crane, the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department's Forestry Division will remove the tree from Mr. and Mrs. Burleson's property and transport it to its holiday home on the Broad Street Plaza of City Hall. Upon arrival, the tree trunk will be lowered into a 3' deep hole in the plaza and cabled to the ground with high tension wire to help withstand the strong downtown winds. During the holiday season, the tree will be aglow with energy-saving LED lights, and adorned with glistening gold garland, ornaments and 3-dimensional lighted snowflakes. The City Hall Tree Lighting Ceremony is produced by the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department and made possible
through the generous support of AEP Ohio, Boehringer Ingleheim Roxane, Inc., Schooley Caldwell Associates, MSI, Ohio CAT, SegAway Tours of
Columbus, Black Creek Bistro, Katzinger's Deli and Tech Art Productions.
