Bad Birthday visit

The six of us went to Schmidt's Sausage Haus as a special birthday treat for our granddaughter's birthday on Wed 3/4/2009. It was an 80 mile round trip from Newark into Columbus, and we'd never been there before. We had high expectations of a good time and were in a festive mood. Unfortunately we had the bad luck to encounter our waiter Rob, who was very curt and unable to answer simple questions about the many varieties of specialty draft beer they had on the menu. He seemed annoyed at our lack of information about their offerings. For example:
Q-How much are these different ones?
A-They vary from $3.35 to $8.00. (I don't remember the exact amounts)
Q-Which ones are which?
A-It depends on how much you get and which one.
Q-Well, are they all the same price for the same size?
A-If you tell me which one you want, I'll see how much it is.
Q-Don't you know how much they are?
A-I'll be back, I have food waiting on me.
A short while later, he came back.
Have you decided what you want?
Q-I'm not sure what these beers are, can you help me?
A-If you tell me what you want.
Q-Rob, you're not helping me here, I still don't know what to get.
A-"Shrug".
At that point I asked him if we could get another waiter.
Along comes Cary (spelling?)
She was fine. Gave me the prices, described the beers, etc. It turns out she was a trainee.
Later I called over the manager, Kyle Schmidt (presumably a member of the owner's family), and told him I was unhappy with Rob's attitude, and described what had happened.

Well ... have you ever complained to a restaurant manager and had him defend the waiter?
Me either. "He's one of our best servers", he says. It was a total shock. Even if he thinks you're a jerk, I can't imagine a manager letting you know it! Not here. If we'd had Cary as a server from the start we would have had a great time. But the combination of Rob and his buddy the manager really soured us on this place. I really go for ethnic, family run restaurants, but this place appears to be too inbred to be worth a visit. I finally told Kyle, I thought it might be Rob's time of the month (not my finest moment). The food was good, but not worth the hassle.
